It’s after the John Whitgift Foundation sold its ownership of the site to developer Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield.
The £31.5 million deal will help plans for new shops, homes and public spaces move forward.
The Foundation says the money will continue supporting its schools and care work across Croydon.
Mayor Jason Perry has welcomed the move, saying it will help transform the town centre.
