During the depression in the 1930’s, hundreds of thousands of jobs were lost across the UK, while nearly 8,000 were lost in Jarrow alone.
This prompted 200 unemployed residents of Jarrow, in Tyneside, to march to London to demand jobs and investment in their town.
The publicity gained from the march helped to generate some renewal for the town.
