SGN is upgrading its gas network in phases between now and the end of the year to support new housing developments.
A “major refurbishment” of the traffic signals at High Street and Upper High Street is also being undertaken by the council.
The authority says it has decided to carry out these works at the same time to minimise longer disruption for residents and drivers.
