Plans to house asylum seeking men at Stanwell Hotel have been paused following concerns from the council.
Spelthorne Borough Council has met with Home Office officials after warning it is not in support of the proposal.
The hotel is currently occupied by families, including vulnerable women and children.
Council Leader, Joanne Sexton, says the decision to pause plans is welcome but the whole decision should be reversed.
