33 year old Arizo Nour has been remanded in custody to next appear at the Old Bailey on Fridayy.
Police were called to an address in Northumberland Crescent on Sunday night.
Searches were then carried out in the canal off Bulls Bridge Lane where a body, believed to be that of a 57-year-old woman, was found.
