The council says two bin lorry fires were tackled in the borough last month while recycling rounds were being carried out.
Batteries need to be discarded separately to household rubbish at dedicated recycling points.
Most shops and supermarkets that sell them have special battery bins and there are also bins at venues such as Chelsea Library.
