It’s been suggested only around 6% of people agree with the government’s definition of what a “new” hospital is.

At the moment, it can be used to describe a site built from scratch, a new wing, or a major refurbishment.

But according to a poll by YouGov, the vast majority don’t believe that’s what’s been promised.

The Tories pledged to create 40 new hospitals in England by 2030, including the replacement for St Helier.
