A bill allowing rickshaw operators to be regulated by Transport for London was announced in the King’s speech on Tuesday.

MP, Sarah Olney, has been lobbying to see such operators allowed on the weight restricted Hammersmith Bridge.

The bridge’s main carriageway has been closed to vehicle traffic since 2019 following structural safety concerns.

But once the initial stabilisation works are completed in the new year, cycle traffic should be able to cross unrestricted.

Ms Olney says this could allow a pedicab service to be put in place while decisions are made regarding the next phase of the works.
