The council says the project is on course to complete on schedule and on budget on October the 1st.
The bearings, which are now being replaced, allow the bridge to flex and absorb movement during hot and icy spells of weather.
The structure would sustain damage rendering it unsafe for traffic if it could not expand and contract.
