The government is urging councils to crack down on fly tipping with more power to prosecute and seize vehicles.

Environment Secretary and Croydon North MP, Steve Reed is encouraging councils to get ‘more aggressive’ by crushing vans that are used to dump waste.

Hounslow begun issuing the maximum fines allowed by law for fly tipping and littering last month.

Over 3,000 tonnes of rubbish were dumped on the borough’s roads last year with cleanups costing taxpayers around £370,000 annually.
