The DVLA’s reviewing the mayor of London’s conviction for failing to tax a 24-year-old Nissan Micra which City Hall officials say he doesn’t own.

Some drivers threatened to register their cars in Lord Sadiq Khan’s name, in protest at the expansion of the city’s Ultra Low Emission Zone to greater London.

He was found guilty in his absence by a magistrate last month.

The magistrate, sitting in a private hearing of the Single Justice Procedure, convicted Lord Khan in his absence and ordered that he pay a £220 fine, £85 in costs, and settle the £35 bill for unpaid tax on the Micra.

City Hall officials have saaid the car does not belong to either the mayor or Transport for London.
