Thames Water says new plans that could see treated sewage pumped into Teddington Lock will protect water supplies during drought.
Twickenham MP Munira Wilson had criticised the move, calling it a ‘threat to people, wildlife and the environment’.
However, a Thames Water spokesperson said; ‘Without this project, London’s drinking water supply will be at risk during periods of drought’.
The company also emphasized that ‘protecting river health’ is ‘at the heart’ of their plans.
