TFL has admitted it can no longer commit to funding the long hoped-for extension of the Croydon tram network to Sutton.

The extension, which formed part of the Mayor of London’s transport strategy, has been on pause since 2019 due to a ‘weak business case.’

An initial estimate placed the total funding required for the extension from South Wimbledon to Sutton at £560 million.

However, TFL admitted that a £440 million funding gap remains.
