Two fires in Hounslow this week are being treated as suspected arson.
There was a large vehicle fire in Whitton Road in the early hours of yesterday.
Hounslow Council says there was a separate attack on a property on Wellington Avenue on Monday.
Council leader, Shantanu Rajawat.
“I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear about a suspected arson incident that took place on Wednesday, 20th of May, on Whitton Road in Hounslow and a separate attack on a property on Wellington Avenue in Hounslow, on Monday, the 18th of May. My thoughts are with all the victims during this difficult time. We are working closely with the police on these incidents and at this stage they are not treating them as hate crimes and it is believed there is no risk to the wider public.
“I understand many residents may be concerned following these incidents, police patrols have been increased in the area and anyone with concerns is asked to speak to police officers.”
Police were called at 1.12 am on Wednesday to reports that a car had crashed into a property in Whitton Road, and a fire had spread from the car to the business premises.
Officers attended with the London Fire Brigade and firefighters extinguished the fire. There was damage to the property, but no injuries were reported.
Police enquiries subsequently indicated that the vehicle had been driven towards the property and appeared to have been deliberately set alight by a suspect, who subsequently fled.
The incident is being treated as a suspected arson. No arrests have been made at this time and extensive police enquiries continue.
Police are keeping an open mind over the motive behind the attack, but at this stage they are not treating it as a hate crime and it is believed there is no risk to the wider public.
Police patrols have been increased in the area and anyone with concerns is asked to speak to officers.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting CAD 362/20MAY or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
