Spelthorne Council is reminding residents that now isn’t the time to cut back hedges, as it’s bird nesting season.

From March until the end of August, many birds rely on hedges and shrubs for shelter while raising their young.

Cutting them back during this period could disturb nesting birds, which are protected by law.

Residents are asked to help protect wildlife by waiting until September before trimming their hedges again.
