Burntwood Lane connects Wandsworth Common to Garratt Lane.

The works will introduce wider footways, safer crossing points for pedestrians and new segregated cycling lanes.

No road closures are expected and the works are due to proceed over the coming year.

Councillor Jenny Yates, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “Burntwood Lane is an important route and those who use it will be aware how wide the road is. Our improvement work is to make better use of the space to create improved cycling facilities, and safer pedestrian crossings.

“Many people in Wandsworth already choose active modes of travel – choosing to walk or cycle or wheel around the borough. The safety improvement works on Burntwood Lane are part of the Council’s commitment to supporting active travel.

“We have also pledged a Decade of Renewal – including a £100m investment over ten years in our roads and pavements. By improving Burntwood Lane, as well as many other routes, we are enabling Wandsworth residents to enjoy safer, smoother journeys around the borough.”
