Kingston Council’s been awarded government funding to deploy smart, multi-purpose lampposts across the borough.

The £250,000 from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology is part of the ‘Smart Infrastructure Pilots’ programme.

Each post will trial new capabilities like improving mobile coverage, electric vehicle charging, CCTV cameras and Internet sensors.

The CCTV cameras have improved picture quality, acting as a deterrent to criminal and anti-social behaviour.
