People living near Chestnut Grove’s junction with Coombe Road say the state of the flagstones on the pavement are a “health hazard.”

Video footage handed to Jackie News appear to show them to be uneven, breaking up and bouncy.

But the council says because that part of the pavement is privately owned, the landowner is responsible for maintaining it.

A Kingston council spokesperson said:

“We recognise this has been a nuisance for pedestrians, however the land highlighted is privately owned therefore the land owner is responsible for maintaining this section of the pavement. There is a council maintained pavement alongside this area for pedestrians to use.

We have just been made aware that a public litter bin has been moved onto this public pavement and we have arranged for it to be returned to the corner of Acacia Grove, where it was previously located.”
