It’s emerged Merton is one of the areas that will benefit from a new free school initiative announced by the Department for Education.

The borough has been chosen as one of seven authorities from across the country to be a part of the national programme.

It is expected that the new 120 place school will open by September 2026.

The authority says that for commercial reasons, any site option has to be kept confidential at this point.
