Hounslow Council says its position on a third runway for Heathrow has not changed.
The Labour run authority says it wants a “better, not bigger” airport and is ready to make sure the voices of its communities are heard.
Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, announced last Wednesday that exploration proposals for Heathrow expansion can resume.
11,000 people in Hounslow work in jobs directly linked to the airport according to the council’s latest figures.
Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, Leader of Hounslow Council said,
“Hounslow Council has a long-held position of a ‘Better, not Bigger Heathrow’ and this position has not changed. We want the airport – which plays a vital role in our economy – to be as successful as possible, and its benefits to be greater than its disbenefits both for those who live close by, and for our whole community.
“We are ready to play our part in the Government’s mission for national growth, and equally to make sure the voices of the communities we represent are heard and that the right investment and support sees concerted effort to mitigate the negative effects of airport operations on our communities.”
