Greater Manchester’s mayor says it’s a ‘massive coup’ to get the Brit Awards.

They are being held outside London for the first time in 40 years.

Andy Burnham says the area has an “unparalleled music heritage, known around the world.”

Organisers believe hosting the ceremony at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena this year and next will help reinvigorate the show.

But the awards still have strong ties to Croydon, home to the BRIT School, which launched stars like Adele and Amy Winehouse.
