Figures show the largest screening of its kind of more than 300,000 police staff, has led to nine criminal investigations.

Employees and volunteers were checked against a national intelligence database to try to find anyone who shouldn’t be in the job.

4,593 individuals were cross-checked by Surrey Police.

Of those, one officer and one staff member were flagged as requiring a vetting clearance review.

None identified required further criminal or disciplinary investigation as a result of the integrity screening exercise.
