The new figure comes from Alzheimer’s Society to mark Dementia Awareness Week.
The charity says the cost is set to rise to £14.1 billion by 2040 unless urgent action is taken.
Its report shows families are shouldering 63% of costs rising from £29,000 per year for mild dementia to £81,000 for severe dementia.
