The idea originated from Station Officer Daniel Foster after seeing how his own daughter, who is autistic, struggled to enjoy the Open Days.
Adjustments to the day included turning a Breathing Apparatus chamber into a ‘sensory’ room with lights and a fire projection for attendees to find.
Ramp access to the cab of a fire engine was also installed so that those in a wheelchair could peek inside
The day was such a success that the team are hoping to make it an annual event, and plans are already underway for the next one.
