As we prepare to mark Victory in Europe Day, veterans at the Star and Garter Care Home in Surbiton have been sharing their memories.

Thursday will mark 80 years since Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender to Allied forces in WWII and the end of fighting in Europe.

Royal Star and Garter provides care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia.

It’s emerged more than 50,000 children have connected with a Second World War veteran by mail ahead of VE Day commemorations.
