All four children’s commissioners are demanding a UK-wide smacking ban – arguing it should be “Sara Sharif’s legacy”.

Her abusive father claimed he “legally punished” her before her death in Woking in 2023.

Smacking is legal in England and Northern Ireland but was banned in Scotland in 2020.

The law in England currently permits parents to physically discipline children, provided it constitutes a ‘reasonable punishment’.
