A senior Liberal Democrat has quit their frontbench, in what’s reported to be an attempt to topple Leader and MP for Kingston Sir Ed Davey. Charlie Maynard has gone as Treasury spokesperson.

According to the Financial Times, the MP for Witney has asked parliamentary colleagues to back a vote of no-confidence in the leader.

His deputy Daisy Cooper says the party’s “furious” at the “distraction”.

Mr Maynard has yet to comment.
