A professor in astrophysics at The University of Surrey who produced a theory about the Milky Way has had his predictions confirmed.

The Dr Denis Erkal model has been validated using data from Euclid, which is the European Space Agency telescope.

It reveals how gravity from the Milky Way pulls clusters of stars apart creating streams of stars travelling across the galaxy.

Dr Erkals has also worked with the Euclid team to identify possible new galaxies in the telescope’s images.
