22 year old Delaney Reed was at a pub near London Street when he became involved in an argument with another pub-goer last August.
CCTV captured Reed repeatedly punching and kicking his victim before leaving the area and returning to continue the attack.
Reed pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for 30 months.
He’s also ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, undertake up to 30 rehab activity requirement days and pay a fine of £204.
Investigating officer, DC Megan Jarvis said: “No one should have their night out end in violence. This assault left another man with serious injuries and serves as a reminder of how quickly situations can escalate.
“Incidents like this can have devastating and lasting consequences. We would encourage everyone enjoying our local pubs and bars to look out for one another and, where it is safe to do so, seek help from venue staff if they see a situation escalating. We work closely with licensed premises and our partners to help keep our town centres safe, and we will always take robust action against those who choose violence.
“If you see someone who needs help, or witness violence or behaviour that causes concern while you’re out, please report it to venue staff or to us. In an emergency always call 999. By working together, we can help ensure everyone feels safe enjoying Surrey’s nightlife.”
