36-year-old Martyn Bushnell was charged with six counts of theft following his arrest at the Co-op on Upper high street last week.
It’s reported he stole items such as chocolate and wine.
He’s been handed an 8-week sentence behind bars.
Inspector Kelly Clifton-Sinclair says she hopes “this sentence sends a message that offenders will be dealt with robustly”.
