Brian Field, from Solihull, admitted killing Roy Tutill in 1968.
He abducted the 14 year old as he made his way home from school in Kingston and his body was later found in woodland in Merstham.
The Ministry of Justice has confirmed he died in February aged 87 at HMP Full Sutton in Yorkshire.
