A horse has died at Sandown Racecourse this afternoon.

Hermes Allen, who was owned by Sir Alex Ferguson, died from a fatal injury during a steeplechase race.

In a statement, “The RSPCA is deeply saddened by the death of Hermes Allen at Sandown Park this weekend and shares the upset of so many in the animal welfare community.

“The loss of any horse is always a tragedy.”
