It follows a second operation using Live Facial Recognition technology.

LFR cameras are focused on a specific area and when people pass through, their images are streamed directly to a system watchlist which officers have access to.

The Met says the recent deployments in have targeted people who have outstanding arrest warrants related to serious violence.

They include a 36-year-old man wanted for possession of a bladed article, drugs and burglary.

And a 37-year-old man wanted for failing to appear at court for assault on an emergency service worker.

As a result, 11 people were arrested for the following:

  • A 36-year-old man wanted by police and arrested for possession of a bladed article, drugs and burglary
  • A 30-year-old man wanted for failing to appear at court for ABH on police and drug offences
  • A 24-year-old man wanted for failing to appear at court for ABH
  • A 55-year-old man wanted for failing to appear for GBH
  • A 31-year-old man wanted by police for fraud
  • A 46-year-old man wanted for failing to appear at court for theft
  • A 35-year-old man wanted for failing to appear at court for assault on an emergency worker
  • A 37-year-old man wanted for failing to appear at court for assault on an emergency service worker
  • A 38-year-old man wanted for failing to appear at court for being drunk and disorderly
  • A 33-year-old man wanted for breach of tag conditions
  • A 55-year-old man wanted for failing to appear at court for theft

Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, who leads policing in Croydon, said: “The arrests last night show our commitment to tackling crime in Croydon. Live Facial Recognition is one of a number of tactics we are using to deny criminals the opportunity to commit crime in our community.”

Local officers spoke to people about the deployment and provided information about LFR.
