A family whose property caught fire in Sutton last week has thanked a bus driver who stopped to alert them as they slept.

The blaze broke out in a “lean-to” before spreading to the kitchen of a property in Collingwood Road just before 6am last Wednesday.

The family, which has asked not to be named, say the driver of a passing number 80 bus stopped the vehicle to bang on their door.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and caused by a lawn mower and lawn streamer battery.
