A collectable 50p celebrating The Snowman has gone on sale, but it could set you back more than £1,000.

It features Raymond Briggs’ famous character on one side, and the King on the other.

Prices start at £11 before rising to £20 for a colour version and £1,200 for a gold one.

Born in Wimbledon in 1934, Raymond showed interest in cartooning from an early age and studied at the Wimbledon School of Art and later at the Slade School of Fine Art.
