The work that’s taken place over the last few weeks also includes resurfacing, lighting repairs and improvements to the old toll booths.
The bridge was closed in February after a crack was found in part of the 150-year-old structure.
The council says it should reopen to traffic in 2027, with up to £8.5 million being spent on the work.
