Nearly all 33 of London’s councils use Article 4 Directions in some capacity to control the amount of HMOS in their boroughs.
The Direction means landlords must apply for full planning permission to convert a once family home into a shared house for 3-6 unrelated people.
An Immediate Article 4 Direction takes effect in one day while a Non-Immediate Direction gives a notice period of up to 12 months.
In a council email seen by Jackie News, the authority says work is underway to pursue a non-immediate Article 4 Direction.
It says this stance will allow time to undertake the necessary consultation and will help minimise the risk of compensation claims.
An update will be given later this year to council members.
