Croydon Council says it’s on track to achieve an extra £27million in savings this year.

That takes the total to £48 million and should reduce the amount of financial support the authority will need from the government.

Croydon’s budget gap is impacted by the council’s £1.4 billion worth of historic debt, which will cost £71million to service next year.

The authority says it is awaiting the Chancellor’s budget on Wednesday before it confirms how savings are to be made.
