Businesses owners in Croydon are being warned about bogus licensing officers claiming to be from the council demanding fees.
The fake officers have contacted premises that sell alcohol telling them they need to make a payment via a bank transfer.
The council says none of its officers will act in this way.
Licensing officers will also identify themselves when approaching business premises by displaying their council identification badge.
