Leader of Mole Valley District Council, Stephen Cooksey releases statement regarding West Street Closure:

“I would like to reassure our residents and businesses in Dorking that I am in contact with Surrey County Council and Thames Water regarding the West Street Closure. I fully appreciate the impact it has on local businesses and traffic congestion in Dorking.

“I’ve written to both organisations to express significant concerns regarding the ongoing works and the impact it has on our community.

“While I understand the complexities of the repairs, I believe the proposed three-month closure is excessive and poses a severe impact on both traffic and trade. I urged both organisations to work closely together to expedite the repairs and improve signage and pedestrian access to minimise the disruption.

“We’ll be sharing the updates on the project as and when they’re available.”

A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we are working to fix a damaged surface water pipe on West Street in Dorking. This is a complex job and repair work began on Thursday 12 September. We anticipate that it will take around a week to complete, with our teams then remaining on site to reinstate the road. During this time a road closure and traffic management measures will remain in place, so that our engineers can safely carry out the repair. We are sorry to residents, businesses and motorists who are impacted by these emergency works.”
