The incident happened just after 5.30am on the 4th of March.
A passenger train, travelling on the Up Fast line between Woking and Waterloo, struck a piece of redundant rail on a railway access point.
The train was travelling at around 85 mph when the collision occurred, but no one was injured.
The Rail Accident Investigation Brach says it will seek to identify “any underlying management factors” behind the incident.
A Network Rail spokesperson previously apologised at the time for the disruption caused.
