London Fire Brigade is reminding people of the importance of a working smoke alarm after a fire in Croydon.

Firefighters were called to a house on Sutherland Road just after 7 o’clock on Sunday evening.

Part of the ground floor was damaged by the blaze and one woman left the property before the brigade arrived.

The cause of the fire was accidental and due to an electrical fault in a consumer unit.

There were no working smoke alarms in the property.
