People across Spelthorne are being warned about a number of doorstep scams doing the rounds.

The council says fraudsters pretending to be salespeople, charity collectors and even someone in distress are targeting homeowners.

The authority says a known tactic is for a con artist to knock on the door needing funds to get to the hospital to see a sick family member.

Residents are being urged to be wary and to call 999 immediately to report a suspected crime in action.
