The hospital has already become the first hospital in the UK to install a weapons bin for people to use anonymously.

It’s after 511 patients turned up at A&E there over the last year with blade and sharp object related injuries.

Experts say 87 weapons were surrendered during the first six months of the scheme.

Officials say the initiative will be extended to other local hospitals including Epsom and St Helier hospitals in the first initiative of its kind in Surrey.
