Young people across the UK are banding together to try and stop the UK Youth Parliament “from being axed.”

Once a year, young politicians are allowed to hold debates in the House of Commons chamber, on a day when MPs are not sitting.

But it’s understood the Department of Culture, Media and Sport is not committing to giving any more financial grants to it.

16-year-old George Meakin is Kingston’s Member of Youth Parliament.

He says the news is “devastating” as the parliament plays a huge role in getting youngsters interested in politics.
