We’re being warned that Barnes railway bridge is to close for a week of repairs at the end of July.

Network Rail’s engineers will be replacing all 48 wooden wheel timbers, and buses will run instead of trains.

A bale of hay will be hung from the bridge in accordance with ancient tradition and the Port of London Thames Byelaws.

It’s to notify maritime traffic of the reduced height of the bridge.

Work is taking place from Sunday the 28th of July to Friday the 2nd of August.
