Wandsworth is hoping to follow other councils in London by fining utilities companies whose roadworks overrun. 

The proposed Lane Rental Scheme sees them charged a daily fee for works and fined if they go over their dedicated dates.

Companies can pay less by working at quieter times or by joining up with other firms at the same time.

A consultation on the proposal closes on the 13^th of November, and the scheme would need Government approval before going ahead.
