Jackie News reported last week how the bird’s mate had been killed in a catapult attack in Old Mill Pond.

The pair’s goslings have subsequently also been lost.

People in the area have reported the male bird sitting alone outside of the pond in recent days.

However, wildlife experts say this is perfectly normal as geese mate for life and are known to grieve if they lose their partner.

Catapults are legal to own and buy in the UK, with no blanket national ban in place.

However, carrying one in public with the intention of causing harm is illegal.
