Transport for London is marking a Second World War tragedy at Balham Station with a VE day memorial statue.

Commissioned by the Royal British Legion, it will feature the Unknown Tommy and Unknown Woman in War.

In October 1940, a 1400kg bomb fell on the road above Balham’s platform tunnels, killing 67 people.

The statutes, on display from the 5th to the 11th of May, look to commemorate the bravery and sacrifices of men and women in war.
