The way 999 calls relating to mental health are dealt with has changed in Surrey.

The scheme “Right Care, Right Person” is being rolled out across the UK, with forces such as the Met London already using it.

999 calls relating to adult welfare or mental health will be triaged and passed over to the appropriate teams such as the ambulance service.

Surrey Police says 291 hours were spent dispatching officers to 175 metal health calls in February alone.
